The next Fishbowl will be hosted by Ryan Alexander, Founder of igotaguy.com.  The concept is based on the age-old expression “I got a guy…” used to make a recommendation whenever someone is needed. Igotaguy.com aims to be the most recognizable brand of online local business advertising. The site provides profile info/photos, recommendations, and hyper-local results which build consumer confidence.

Ryan is a very energetic individual with a background in sales/marketing and customer service.  Igotaguy.com has a pretty straight forward business model and a solid concept. He’s put together a rock star team that has built a winning website that continues to create BUZZ across the country because of the name alone.  Like most marketplaces online, igotaguy.com is struck with a similar chicken vs. egg problem.  Ryan needs to tap the community to discuss marketing his particular product/service locally and discuss the growth strategy he’s employing.

If you’re a resourceful serial entrepreneur or a social marketing guru, this is your time to shine.  Come and contribute to you community and show your brilliance at this Fishbowl.

FISHBOWL: What is this all about?

Fishbowls are workshops for business owners to call upon their entrepreneurial peers in the Philadelphia community to work out a problem or situation with their business.  The focus can range from improving business practices, to marketing, strategy, or kick around a legitimate and innovative idea.  The goal is to facilitate a round table discussion and produce results that make a difference.

Fishbowl hosts have the floor to themselves with limited moderation from the Fishbowl rep’, just to keep things orderly.  The fishbowl is all about you and your business.  The fishbowl is not about getting a cheering section or a pat on the back.  Fishbowls gather the brightest local minds to cultivate and propel you ahead.

Fishbowls take place every other month on the third Wednesday of the month. The location is subject to change, so check back for confirmation.

For more information on hosting a Fishbowl for your company, contact Nicolas Warren – fishbowl@phillystartupleaders.org

PSL Startup Breakfast, 8/25/09, 8am-?, Coventry Deli, 2000 Market St, Downstairs

Chris Cera on Aug 25th 2009

Join Philly Startup Leaders for breakfast!  In the spirit of our monthly happy hours, we are experimenting with breakfast gatherings (caffeine to replace the booze).  Many members have expressed difficulty meeting for evening events, so this breakfast is for you!

The PSL Startup Breakfast has been designed for the busy entrepreneur, around the idea of being in/out within an hour.  However, there is no time restriction (hanging out afterward is encouraged).

Coventry deli is self-serve, so you order breakfast at the counter and seat yourself in the basement (cafeteria-style).  They have space available that will fit 100 people, and if you do not see the signs directing you downstairs, then please ask one of the cashiers to direct you to the basement.

Register today to reserve a FREE seat for Entrepreneurs Unplugged v. III

Entrepreneurs Unplugged Series continues on  Wed, August 19 at 7 pm.
Location : Hamilton Hall 320 South Broad Street  (map -  http://tr.im/hHpj )
Cosponsored by the Corzo Center for the Creative Economy at The University of the Arts.

Join us for Volume 3 of Entrepreneurs Unplugged, the series that brings successful local entrepreneurs on stage to educate, entertain and inspire the startup community.  The format for the evening will be a 30 minute presentation followed by audience participation – come out for a night of fun and to have your startup questions answered.

Volume 3 features Tal Raviv, founder of DropCard. Dropcard is a Philly based lead-management tool. Tal is hilarious and wicked smart, so we expect this will be an Entrepreneurs Unplugged for the ages.

Tal Raviv’s Going commando: Counter intuitive lessons in entrepreneurship

* Why competition may be the best thing that could happen to your idea
* How to get everything you need for free
* Why staying up on tech news and social media is a waste of time
* You learned the most important lesson in entrepreneurship in fifth grade
* There’s only one thing correct in your business plan
* The real role of a “visionary CEO” in an early startup
* There’s only three possible benefits your business can provide
* Why all this also applies to nonprofits and social ventures

Bio:
Tal Raviv founded Dropcard, a lead management tool, at Dreamit Ventures class of ‘08. The company changes its plan twice an hour and the team bootstraps more than Macgyver.

Tal is most proud of his ocean kayaking adventures with sharks, shipwrecks, and sea caves; sleeping on the great wall of China; and instigating a protest against activism. He accomplished all this despite his chemical engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Tal is also starting up a scalable, cheap, resilience intervention program at Graterford State Prison, and holds the Guinness world record for the largest ball of tape.

Register today to reserve your free seat!

Thanks to our friends at the University of Arts for providing such an extraordinary venue to showcase
our local talent.  Tickets are free thanks to TicketLeap and video streaming and recording is made possible by Bart Mroz of Round3 Media.  The series continues on 10/7 at the same time and place.  Future speaker suggestions are welcomed.
